JOIN THE LAB

Prospective Postdocs

The lab currently does not have funding to hire a postdoc, but I am interested in discussing sponsoring and collaborating on applications for external funding!

Prospective postdocs should contact me to discuss research interests and potential funding opportunities. Please email me with:

  1. A description of your research interests, previous experience, goals for postdoctoral training, and funding opportunities you are considering
  2. Your CV
  3. A representative first-author publication

Prospective Graduate Students

I encourage my students to collaborate with me on existing projects and study systems, as well as develop their own research interests. I am willing to advise students working in other areas so long as their questions are close enough to my own areas of expertise.

Prospective graduate students interested in joining the lab should contact me to discuss their interests first (resource on how to send an inquiry email) and then submit an application to the graduate program in the Department of Integrative Biology at University of South Florida. Details about the Masters and PhD programs and how to apply can be found here: https://www.usf.edu/arts-sciences/departments/ib/graduate/.

Please include in your email:

  1. A brief description of your research interests and experiences
  2. Your CV, including at least 2 professional references
  3. Whether you are interested in a Masters or PhD program

Prospective USF Undergraduate Students

Highly motivated undergraduate students who are willing to commit at least two semesters of research are encouraged to contact me about opportunities for conducting research in the lab. USF allows opportunities for research credit, or research can be done on a volunteer basis. Please contact your academic advisor when deciding how many research credits may be best for you to pursue.

Please include in your email:

  1. Your interests in biology and why you want to participate in research
  2. Your year in college
  3. A list of biology courses you have taken at USF or elsewhere
  4. Any experience you have related to research, working with animals, working outdoors, or data organization/analysis

Life at University of South Florida

The University of South Florida has ~44,000 students at its Tampa campus (where our lab is based) and is located in the Tampa Bay region. Tampa is a vibrant city with a variety of options for food, entertainment, outdoor activities, and cultural experiences (https://www.visittampabay.com/). With over 24 hiking trails, 5 nature preserves, and a 30-minute drive to the closest bay, there is no short supply of access to the rich, unique ecosystem Florida has to offer. The city also offers a wide range of indoor activities such as the Tampa Museum of Art, the Straz Center for the Performing Arts, as well as a rich scene of culinary delights in historic Ybor City and Riverwalk in Downtown Tampa.
